LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A multi-million-dollar verdict was reached Friday in the wrongful death lawsuit against the MTA involving a blind passenger.
The mother of Cameron Cuthbertson was awarded $17 million.
She filed a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority after Cuthbertson, who was blind, mistook a gap between Metro Blue Line trains for a door.
The 48-year-old died at the Del Amo station in 2009.
The lawsuit argued a lack of barriers on the Blue Line platforms was to blame.
Eyewitness News did an investigation on Cuthbertson’s death and highlighted safety violations on the Blue Line platform.
The MTA later made changes and installed barriers to prevent similar accidents.
