BECKLEY —  The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department is cleared of wrong doing in a civil suit that wrapped up on Monday, July 18, 2011. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed after two deputies shot and killed Robert Webb on July 4, 2006 at the Cabell Heights Subdivision.

Webb was reportedly firing an AK-47 assault rifle into the air to celebrate Independence Day and his birthday. When the deputies arrived on scene Webb apparently raised the weapon, provoking a deadly response from the officers.

The jury received the case at around 3 p.m., after about three hours of deliberation they found that the deputies were not negligent in their response to Webb’s actions.
